As the establishment of a Wind Farm is a long term project, Insurance Cover is usually arranged in the following stages although we can arrange cover at any stage of a project.

Anemometer Stage

Depending on the nature of your project you may require cover during the initial exploratory stages where an Anemometer mast is erected to measure wind patterns & velocity.

We can provide cover for damage caused to the mast along with public liability insurance for the proposed site itself which is often required by the landowners.

Construction & Erection Stage

During the Construction Stage insurance is provided to protect against injury, loss, destruction or damage on site.

Some turbine suppliers offer a Turn Key facility where they erect the turbines & provide construction cover however we can easily arrange this cover as required for your project.

Just like cover on a conventional construction site this section includes public & employers liability and loss/damage to the permanent or temporary works, materials, goods and plant used in connection with the design, construction, erection, commissioning & testing of the project.

We can also provide cover against lost revenue after the turbine has commenced producing electrical energy or the take over certificate has been issued

Cover is also available for loss or damage to turbines/equipment in transit from the manufacturer's plant to site.

Defect Insurance

As part of your wind energy insurance policy we can offer policy extensions that will provide cover for defects liability and extended maintenance up to 24 months after the project has become commercially operational.

Operating All Risks Insurance [Operation Insurance]

At this stage cover for the turbines and associated infrastructure is provided to ensure both the operating company & its financiers are protected against all risks of physical loss or damage (including natural catastrophes) to the entire wind farm project.

Cover can be arranged for:

• Damage to wind turbines including Mechanical and electrical breakdown (with or without warranty protection)
• Full Catastrophe Cover [Flood, Windstorm, Earthquake etc]
• Business Interruption covering loss of gross revenue or gross profit arising from Damage to wind farm assets including turbines, ancillary plant, buildings and associated buildings & civil works
• Interruption in the supply of electricity to the grid following failure of owned or non-owned substations
• Terrorism Cover
• Public Liability Insurance
• Employers Liability Insurance

Policies are underwritten in and out of warranty regardless of their location.

It is important to note that although manufacturers provide warranties with their products we can offer a policy that will cover consequential damage & lost revenue. This is an area that would not be recoverable from a manufacturer following a loss.
